PRAYING IN FAITH AND OBEDIENCE FOR GOD’S WILL
“…your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10 ).
I don’t know about you, but I like to have things my way. I think it’s human nature, but human nature is sinful. In His Holy Word, God calls us to do things His way—that’s obedience! As we love Him, we must walk in faith to do His will in obedience, even when it appears foolish to the world. Here are four great examples from the Bible:
• Noah built an ark, though he had never seen rain (Genesis 6:19–8:22).
• David, just a boy, defeated Goliath with a single stone (1 Samuel 17).
• Peter walked on water when Jesus said, “Come” (Matthew 14:22–33).
• Jesus died a criminal’s death on a cross—for us (Luke 23:26–49).
These familiar Bible stories remind us of the courage in men's hearts as they place their faith entirely in God. They may not have understood—or could have even been afraid—but they overcame their fear through faith. Even Jesus, in His humanity, prayed, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done” (Luke 22:42). Jesus was obedient through the horror, torture, and separation from God as He took the punishment for our sins through His death on the cross. He wants us to be obedient too, even when it may make no sense or appear humanly impossible to us. That’s when faith steps in, trusting and knowing His way and will is better than ours.
That’s why when we pray, we can pray in faith and confidence knowing one thing is certain: God will always answer our prayers, but in His perfect timing and holy will. He knows every circumstance and what is best for us. We can trust Him. John 10:10 states, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
We know the thief—Satan—is hard at work to destroy lives. He is happy when we disobey. Yet we also know through God’s Word, that His will is for us to obey Him. He commands us in Matthew: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind… and to love your neighbor as yourself” (22:37, 39). Let’s seek God’s will and plan for our lives by loving Jesus and others through action and prayer. In faith and obedience, we trust in God and listen to the Holy Spirit who empowers each of us to love and obey, even when we don’t want to, or it doesn’t make sense.
Showing love for others by pointing them to Jesus is what our Palau ministry does so well. They—in faith—seek God’s will for direction in ministry, His guidance on when and where to go, and His will and timing. Will you join us in praying God’s will for them together on April 22nd, 9:00am (pacific).
